I've always been a writer. My early stuff, from college, is downright embarassing, but it's here anyway.
Much of my later, practice writing was done as travelogues, which you can read in the Fishing section.
A surprisingly complete piece of fiction from my college days. Really inspired. Even after 25 years, I'm a little proud of this one.
Another short story I wrote in College. I probably shouldn't have this on a public website, but I can't bring myself to delete it. I liked the wordplay in this one, the visuals and the bizarre love triangle angle. Not sure exactly when I wrote it, but I was about 20.
I actually know what year this was written. The HTML has a 1989 copyright in it from yours truly in a comment. This one is biblical. Thoughtful. Playful. I wouldn't write it today, but glad its still here.
I was working on similes for this powerful little piece when I wrote it back in the early 90s. I can barely read it now, because it's just too un-disciplined. But overall I like how it came out. I don't have as much passion for writing now as I did then.
Once there was a way to get back home, he thought. He wished he could get back there now, because the alligator was pulling even harder and his grip on the tree's root was slipping.
